Pale and interesting beers from the Brew Foundation
Apollo Thirsteen
It’s meant to be summer so let’s pretend it’s sunny with this, a refreshing session pale.
Apollo Thirsteen is brewed with Apollo hops to give notes of grapefruit whilst Olicana and Ekuanot give a boost of tropical notes.
Perfect for a summer session beer. Now if we can just sort out the summer weather we’re laughing!
PekkoChu
All aboard the haze craze! PekkoChu is double dry hopped with Pekko and Citra hops (during fermentation and after fermentation) to give a pineapple and mango hit.
It has an extra pale malt and wheat malt base, and is fermented with Labrew New England yeast to make it nice and dank and fruity.
Unlike most DDH pales it’s just 3.9%, to make it super sessionable!
Lager Than Life
A clean, crisp pilsner brewed using spring water, the finest pilsner malt and two classic Czech hops. Sladek hops give a
slight, subtle spice to the mouth feel, whilst Saaz hops give that familiar floral aroma associated with proper Czech pilsners.
Now available gluten free!
C-BOMB!
We’ve only gone and dropped the C-Bomb! This Citra bombed session IPA is made from a simple pale ale malt base and loads and loads of Citra hops added in the last 20 minutes of the boil. It’s then cooled and “hop bombed” with even more whole leaf Citra to make a relatively low bitterness beer with lots of tropical fruit flavour and aroma.
Using just one hop (but plenty of it) allows the mango and tropical fruit flavour profiles from the Citra shine through.
For drinking in the sun, it’s da bomb!
Free Beer
Free Beer is our gluten free and finings free, hazy APA.
Recently we’ve been asked a lot to make a gluten free beer, so we bloody well did it! This American Pale is brewed using malt and wheat, like “regular” beers but then the gluten is removed using Brewers Clarex. This reduces the amount of gluten in the beer to ten parts per million. (FYI for something to be classed as “gluten free” there needs to be less than 21 parts per million).
As well as being gluten free we also refrained from adding Isinglass finings to the beer so it’s also vegan friendly. This does make the beer hazy but that inturn gives more hop flavour as there is hop debris suspended in the beer.
Liberally hopped with Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic to ensure plenty of flavour and bite.
Pop
A session pale with a tropical hop pop. Made from Olicana and Mosaic hops.
Olicana is an English hop grown here in the UK to compete with the punchy American hops; it brings lots of grapefruit, mango and passionfruit to the party.
Dry hopping with lots of Mosaic hop adds a wonderful tropical fruit and blueberry aroma.
The perfect hoppy session beer.
Laughing Water
Laughing Water is a hoppy, tropical-fruity pale ale that gets its name, and it’s flavour, from a punchy English hop called “Jester”. Think: blackcurrant, grapefruit & lychees.
Galena bittering hops give it a subtle citrus base.
Amarillo dry hopping adds an extra boost of orange and peach aroma.
Extra pale and pale ale malts are used to ensure a balanced flavour of malt vs hop, whilst giving Laughing Water a pale straw coloured body.
The result is a very hoppy, yet very drinkable, 4.3% beer that’s perfect for sunny days with plenty of laughs.
Hop & Glory
The bigger brother of our session IPA Hops & Dreams, our new full on IPA, Hop & Glory, uses the same hops used to make its little sibling but lots more of them! Meaning more flavour and more aroma but still the great balanced taste you’d expect from a Brew Foundation beer. Compared to Hops & Dreams we’ve added more flavour hops (Magnum) to Hop & Glory, we’ve doubled the amount of aroma hops (Cascade) and doubled the amount of dry hopping (Rakau).
We still wanted to make it a great session beer so it’s just a touch below the 5% mark at 4.9% ABV.
The tropical fruit flavours and aromas from the Rakau really come into their own in this one. Combine this with the floral, citrus aromas from the Cascade and you get a clean, fresh IPA that’s incredibly moreish.
It was launched at Craft and Dough during Sheffield Beer Week on the 17th March and is now available in bottle, cask and keg across Sheffield, Cheshire, Stoke on Trent, Wakefield and Manchester.
